Welcome to DEF CON Training! We’re excited to have you join us this summer, with the first classes starting on August 7.

All summer classes have been confirmed, so if you haven’t heard from us about needing to transfer, you are good to go!

As a reminder, DEF CON Training will be in the West Hall of the Las Vegas Convention Center, where the conference will be.

Here are a few important updates and reminders as we get closer to kickoff:

1. Training Check In Passes

Starting July 22, all students will receive an email from Humanitix with your check-in pass. You will need to have the QR code in the Humanitix message to check in and receive your Learner badge.

If you registered after July 22, don't worry! We will send out QR codes about twice a week to new registrants.

If you do not receive an email from Humanitix, please check your spam or junk folder. If you still do not find it, please email training@defcon.org. If you purchased a course on behalf of a different student, only the student should have received the Humanitix email.

2. Certificate Information

All courses come with a certificate of completion, with the option in some cases to upgrade to a certificate of proficiency (purchase required).

To make sure we have the right information to include on your certificate, please review the details in your Humanitix check in pass (name and email) and make edits via the “Manage Order” button. To change the email address on the order, you can update the preferred email address field.

By default, course certificates will be issued electronically as a PDF. If you would prefer a paper certificate, please fill out this form by the dates below. Please note that if you choose to receive a paper certificate, you will not receive an electronic (PDF) copy.

To allow for processing time, please make any edits to your certificate information or request a paper certificate by the dates and times below:

  • For Friday and Saturday-Sunday classes: 11:59 pm PT on Thursday, August 6.

  • For Monday-Tuesday and 4-day (Saturday-Tuesday) classes: 12:00 pm PT on Monday, August 10.

Electronic certificates are usually issued about one week after the conclusion of training. Paper certificates will be provided before the student leaves class on the last day. Certificates that are not picked up will not be mailed, and the student will be issued an electronic (PDF) certificate instead.

All students will also receive an electronic badge via Credly, using the same certificate information. Credly badges are typically issued about one month after training.

Attendance Policy: Certificates are considered a verification of your completion of a course to be used with employers, to apply for continuing education credits, or other similar processes. As such, students who miss more than 25% of a course will not be eligible to receive their course certificate.

3. Badge Pickup and Training Check-In – Room 226, LVCC West Hall

Check in will be in the Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) West Hall, Room 226. Be sure to bring a physical or electronic copy of your Humanitix check in pass.

Check In Hours

  • Thursday, August 6: 12:00 pm-7:00 pm

  • Friday, August 7: 7:30 am-7:00 pm

  • Saturday, August 8: 7:30 am-7:00 pm

  • Sunday, August 9: 7:30 am-5:00 pm

  • Monday, August 10: 7:30 am-12:00 pm

If you signed up for a Friday, Saturday-Sunday, or 4-day (Saturday-Tuesday class), you will pick up your included DEF CON Human Badge at Training check in. You do not need to line up at LineCon (regular DEF CON Human Registration).

We encourage you to check in before the first day of class to avoid long lines!

During DEF CON on Friday-Sunday, a DEF CON Human Badge will be required to enter content areas in the LVCC. In general, you should be fine moving through walkways. However, if a Goon stops you, just let them know you are headed to Training Check In and show them your check in pass. They can also help provide directions if you need help finding the check in room.

4. Training Schedule and Room Assignment

Training will run 8:30 am to 5:30 pm each day, with a lunch break (times will vary based on instructor preference and course structure). Most instructors also provide several other breaks throughout the day.

Coffee will be provided in the morning before class begins and again in the early afternoon. The Las Vegas Convention Center food court will be open every day.

For Friday, Saturday, and Sunday only, boxed lunch will be provided to prevent delays due to crowds during DEF CON.

All courses will be in the LVCC in the West Hall. Room assignments will be shared the week of training.

5. Happy Hour on Monday, August 10 (6:30-8:30 pm PT)

All students and trainers will be invited to join us for an informal happy hour with Jeff Moss (The Dark Tangent) on Monday, August 10. This will likely be at the Fontainebleau. More details will follow in the coming weeks. Please note that this will be a cash bar event, and guests will be responsible for their own drink purchases.

6. Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a Human Badge to attend training?

For classes running on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, your course comes with a Human Badge, and you must wear it, along with your training Learner badge, to prevent any issues accessing the LVCC or specific areas.

For classes running on Monday and Tuesday, you do not need a Human Badge to attend your course, only your training Learner badge. However, if you would also like to attend DEF CON over the weekend, you will need to purchase a Human Badge.

Does my training come with a Human Badge for DEF CON?

Only Friday, Saturday-Sunday, and 4-day (Saturday-Tuesday) courses include a Human Badge. If you are joining us for a Monday-Tuesday course and would like to pre-purchase a Human Badge to pick up at training check in, email training@defcon.org and we can send you an invoice. You do not need a Human Badge to attend your training course on Monday and Tuesday.

What if my training comes with a Human Badge for DEF CON? Where can I pick it up?

All Friday, Saturday-Sunday, and 4-day (Saturday-Tuesday) courses include a Human Badge. You can pick up your Human Badge at training check in, located in the LVCC West Hall, Room 226 (details above). You do not need to line up in LineCon (DEF CON Human Badge Registration).

What do I need to bring to check in?

Bring your QR code (included in this message) to check in - that’s it! Both printed or electronic versions will be accepted.

I purchased this training for someone else. Why am I receiving course emails?

If you purchased a course on behalf of someone else, be sure that they are also receiving course communications. If you have not already done so, you can update the registration to their name using the “Manage Order” button in the check in pass email from Humanitix. To change the email address on the order, you can update the preferred email address field.

We often leave original purchasers on general training communications until we are sure that the student is receiving the appropriate communications, and to keep them in the loop about the course they purchased.

Other questions? Feel free to reach out to training@defcon.org
