Course Description:

Ready to dissect the world of cyber threats and outsmart attackers? This 2-Day crash course gives you a practical intro to Cyber Risk Intelligence (CRI). Learn to analyze the threat landscape, profile attackers, and build proactive defenses. Get ready for a mix of insights, real-world scenarios, and hands-on techniques!

Day 1

  • Intro: Level Up Your CRI (15 mins)
    • Why CRI is essential for outsmarting attackers
    • The evolving threat landscape – what's hot right now
  • Module 1: Threat Intel Masterclass (1 hour theory, 1 hour practical)
    • Theory: Attacker motivations & TTPs – Know your enemy
    • Practical:
      • Threat Profiling Exercise: Students analyze a recent breach, identifying attacker type, likely goals, and TTPs.
      • OSINT Mini-Hunt: Focused exercise on an unconventional source (pastebin, GitHub, etc.), tracing a specific vulnerability/exploit.
  • Module 2: Incident Response Speed Run (1 hour theory, 1 hour practical)
    • Theory: Building the ultimate IR playbook
    • Practical:
      • Simpler Breach Scenarios: Small teams analyze, categorize the attack, and outline immediate response steps.
      • Discussion and peer feedback on proposed strategies.
Day 2

  • Module 3: Emerging Trends & Staying Ahead (1 hour theory, 1 hour practical)
    • Theory: AI/ML's role in the attack/defense arms race
      • IoT security nightmares – and how to fight them
      • The ethics minefield: Gray areas and where to draw the line
    • Practical:
      • "Defend the IoT": Challenge to design basic mitigation for specific IoT devices (smart cameras, etc.). Focus on feasibility with limited resources.
      • Ethics Debate: Moderated discussion on scenarios like honeypots, selling data, and their implications
  • Continuous Project: Design Your Counterattack (3 hours)
    • Interspersed throughout modules - teams use insights from each session to build their counterattack strategy against the major threat scenario.
    • Final Presentation: Teams present their plan, with judging for technical soundness, innovation, and "hacker spirit."
